Michael Scheurer's exhibition, August, 2010

Michael Scheurer

Michael Scheurer was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1954. He studied liberal arts at Xavier University before moving to New York to earn a degree in textile design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. In a career spanning thirty years and several continents, he has pursued unconventional gallery shows and diverse curatorial projects alternating with several temporary retail ventures dealing in vintage clothing, antiques and art—all of which fuel his artistic output. His eccentric lifestyle permits long-term visits for research and collecting to major metropolises like New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo. The sumptuous and richly-worked collage series for which he is known complement his reputation as a connoisseur and consultant to collectors of modern and contemporary art and objects, tribal arts, exotic woven carpets and antique textiles. Scheurer’s personal artwork is held in private collections from Cincinnati to Sydney, Australia.
